GARDEN FENCE PROJECT MAKING HEADWAY

Thanks to generous donations from the Halcott Community Fund, Wadler Bros. Inc. and Tim & Chrystl Johnson, the Halcott Community Garden will soon have a fence to keep out the critters! Stay tuned for our next work day to help with installing the fence, hopefully sooner rather than later as the beasts, both little and big, are slowly discovering us in their fertile valley. Also, special thanks to Barbara Dury for securing the garden patronage of Wadler Bros., a local building supply outlet with long family ties to Halcott. It is wonderful to add their support to our evergrowing roster of patrons.

COMMUNAL GARDEN PLOTS ARE UNDERWAY.....thanks to all who attended a great work day on Saturday. We successfully planted all of the available raised beds, picked rock from the newly disked center area, cut back invading vegetation and began work on our first inground plot for growing food and veges to be harvested for donation to local organizations and for our first ANNUAL FALL HARVEST CELEBRATION....DATE IN OCT TBD......

For member gardeners who wish to dig in......please note the first communal bed has been lightly axe picked and some stoned removed forming a defining circle. A mulch of newspaper and soil has been placed along the outer ring, and the bed is awaiting a topping of composted manure to be delivered by Chris & Judy. It will require some further digging in and should then be ready to go. PLease feel free to continue work on this plot, but make sure you clearly mark any areas you plant with i.d. of what is growing there....Also if you will be planting perennials, please make sure they are situated with room to grow . Help yourselves to any seeds you want to try located in a plastic covered lime bucket on site. A temporary marker of a stone with writing on it will do to alert others not to disturb new plantings......bring your sharpies!!!
